Director's Statement:
Love Will Tear Us Apart is a film about the cost of emotional safety — and the quiet courage it takes to risk connection in a world designed to eliminate pain. It’s personal for me because I’ve lived both sides of the story: the ache of closing yourself off to avoid being hurt, and the transformative power of love when you finally open up.
As a filmmaker, I’ve always been drawn to stories where genre elements serve emotional truth. I didn’t want to make a movie about robots. I wanted to make a movie about people — one woman, in particular — who has every reason to hide from life, and every reason not to believe in love. And still, love finds her. That contradiction — hopeful and heartbreaking — is the heart of this film.
Visually, I see Love Will Tear Us Apart as a blend of grounded futurism and emotional intimacy. Cold, slick architecture gives way to human warmth as Joy reconnects with her capacity to feel. We start in a clinical sci-fi world and move toward something raw, romantic, and real.
This story is for anyone who’s ever been betrayed by someone they trusted — and who still wants to believe love is worth it.
I’m telling it because I believe it is.
